Pétanque is the most natural team game in the south of France. It needs no special skill to start, the rules fit in a sentence, and the rhythm of the matches leaves time for conversation between throws. Paired with a table tennis tournament on the same grounds, it gives a group two games to choose from, which suits people who prefer a quiet game and those who like to move.
The teams are formed in advance so that they mix departments and seniority levels. Matches are short and the bracket is simple, which lets the tournament move quickly and keeps the energy high. A small trophy or a tasting at the end gives the day a clear finish, and the scores can be kept on a board for the whole afternoon.
The tournament suits a seminar break, a summer team day or the start of an evening. The green space and the tables are available on the grounds of the estate, and the programme can be extended with a drink, a barbecue or a lunch. The format and the length of the tournament are adapted to the group and to the weather on the day.
