Organising a Seminar or Incentive in the French Alps

Megève, Courchevel and Annecy offer three very different Alpine settings. A guide to access, winter and summer programmes, altitude and the logistics of mountain roads.

Organising a Seminar or Incentive in the French Alps

Three Alpine settings, three different uses

A seminar in the French Alps is not a single product. Megève, Courchevel and Annecy share a mountain horizon but answer different briefs, and choosing among them is the first decision of the project.

Megève is a village with a pedestrian centre, wooden chalets and an old-established reputation for elegance. It suits groups that want a refined atmosphere on a human scale, in winter or summer. Courchevel is one of the largest ski areas in the world, the Three Valleys, and its upper village sits at 1,850 metres; it is the choice for a luxury winter incentive with ski, helicopter and private chalet options. Annecy is of a different nature: a lake town with canals, an old town and mountains reflected in the water, comfortable from spring to autumn and workable even in winter.

Access: Geneva first, then the road

For most international groups the airport of Geneva is the most practical entry point. From there, Annecy is reached in under an hour by road in normal conditions, Megève in roughly an hour and a quarter, and Courchevel in two and a half to three hours depending on the traffic and the state of the roads. Chambéry and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry are alternatives, and Annecy can also be reached by TGV from Paris in about four hours. Courchevel has an altiport for private flights and helicopters, which is relevant for small executive groups.

These times are indicative and should be validated for the specific dates. Weekends in the winter holiday periods, particularly Saturday changeovers, can lengthen the journey considerably, and we generally advise avoiding arrival or departure on those days for a corporate group.

Hotels and settings

In Megève, the Four Seasons Hotel Megève and Les Fermes de Marie represent two sensibilities, one contemporary and one rooted in the farm-and-chalet tradition. In Courchevel, Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles are among the addresses best known for luxury winter groups, and they can offer exclusive-use options that should be requested well in advance. At Annecy, the Impérial Palace stands on the lake in the centre of the town, while the Abbaye de Talloires, a former abbey on the eastern shore, provides a quieter and more historic setting for a small executive meeting.

As always, capacities, meeting rooms and the possibility of buying out a property depend on the establishment and the season, and we confirm them at the time of the quotation.

Winter and summer programmes

Winter is the most obvious season, but it is not limited to skiing. Snowshoeing in Megève is accessible to nearly everyone and gives a group a walk in the snow without the technical demands of alpine skiing. An evening in a mountain chalet, with a fire, regional cooking and a cheese-based menu, reliably becomes the memory of the stay. In Courchevel, a private chalet and a helicopter ski day suit a small group of senior participants.

Summer is often undervalued. Guided hiking in the Mont-Blanc massif, a scenic helicopter flight and a cheese workshop in Savoie provide a full programme at altitude without the constraints of snow. On Lake Annecy, a paddle challenge works well for team building, and a private boat dinner on the water makes a distinctive closing evening. For a company that wishes to avoid the high winter prices, a summer or early autumn seminar in the mountains is often a better compromise.

Mountain logistics: altitude, roads and safety

Several points specific to the mountains should be integrated into the planning from the start.

  • Altitude: at 1,850 metres, some participants will feel tired or sleep poorly on the first night. Avoid scheduling intense activity on arrival and encourage hydration.
  • Winter roads: in winter, rules require specific equipment on designated mountain roads, and coach operators must confirm compliance. Snowfall can delay transfers, so keep margins on departure days.
  • Clothing: communicate a clear list before travel, since participants from warmer countries often underestimate the cold.
  • Safety: ski, helicopter and hiking activities involve qualified guides and insurance conditions that we verify with each provider. A weather-based fallback is part of every programme.

A group that is well prepared for these constraints enjoys the mountains much more than one that discovers them on arrival.

常見問題

Which airport should we use for the Alps?

Geneva is the most practical for Annecy, Megève and Courchevel. Chambéry and Lyon-Saint-Exupéry are alternatives, depending on the destination and the flight schedules.

Can a seminar in the Alps take place in summer?

Yes. Summer offers hiking, lake activities and cooler temperatures than the lowlands, often at lower hotel prices than in the ski season.

Is Courchevel suitable for a large group?

Courchevel is best suited to small and medium groups looking for luxury. Larger groups may find Annecy or the Megève area easier to manage in terms of capacity and transfers.

What should we plan if snow disrupts the transfer?

We build margins into departure days, work with coach operators equipped for winter conditions, and keep a flexible schedule so that a delayed arrival does not cancel the first session.
