The traboules of Lyon are covered passageways that run through the courtyards of Vieux Lyon and the Croix-Rousse hill, built over centuries to move goods and silk between streets. Many were used by the silk workers of the Croix-Rousse and by the Resistance during the Second World War. They offer one of the most distinctive urban walks in France.
We design an evening that begins with a guided walk through a selection of traboules, with the history of the district explained at each stop, then continues to a traditional bouchon for a dinner of Lyonnaise dishes and regional wines. The route depends on which buildings open that evening, and is confirmed in advance.
Because the passageways are private property and sometimes narrow, groups are limited in size and the walk is kept to a set number of stops.
Obiettivi
- Show a side of Lyon that most visitors never see
- Combine a guided urban walk with a traditional Lyonnaise dinner
- Give groups a relaxed evening with a clear story and a convivial table
Svolgimento
- 1Confirmation of the buildings open for the walk on the chosen evening, with a route of set length.
- 2Meeting point in Vieux Lyon, near Saint-Jean, with a short introduction.
- 3Guided walk through several traboules, with stops in courtyards and on the historic stairways.
- 4Dinner in a bouchon, with Lyonnaise dishes and regional wines served at shared tables.

Da sapere
- Traboules are private property open to the public by agreement. Evening access is not guaranteed for every building, and the route is confirmed the day before.
- Stairs and uneven floors are common; the walk is not suitable for guests with limited mobility unless we know in advance.
- The Vieux Lyon streets are narrow and busy; large groups are split into two smaller walking groups.
- Bouchons serve generous portions; we check dietary needs in advance.
Budget indicativo
Indicative, from €140 per person excluding VAT, for a guided traboule walk and a set dinner in a bouchon with regional wine. The price depends on the route, the group size and the restaurant. Transfers are not usually needed, as the district is walkable.
Domande frequenti
Can every traboule be visited in the evening?
No. Each building is private, and only some open their passageways to visitors, on set days and times. We select the route on the basis of what is confirmed for the chosen evening.
What is a bouchon?
A bouchon is a traditional Lyonnaise restaurant serving local dishes such as quenelles, sausages and andouillette, with wine served in pichets. It is a relaxed and convivial format, and the group is seated together.
Is the walk suitable for an international group?
Yes, with the commentary offered in English or French by our guides. The walk is best for groups who are comfortable on stairs and narrow streets, and we brief the group on this in advance.
