Normandy is one of the most significant places in twentieth-century history, and its memorial sites are visited every year by groups from around the world. A historical challenge run with a qualified guide offers an active way to engage with that history. Teams work through clues linked to the 1944 landings, the Bayeux Tapestry and the daily life of the region.

The tone is respectful and measured. Challenges prompt reflection as well as competition, and the guide keeps the programme suited to each setting. Visits to memorial sites follow each site's own rules and opening hours.

Objectives

  • Engage with a major chapter of modern history in an active way
  • Build teamwork through research and shared reasoning
  • Reflect on the shared values behind the 1944 campaign
  • Balance a serious subject with a practical, team-based format

How it works

  3. 3Team tasks based on archive material and careful observation
  4. 4Debrief in a quiet setting, followed by lunch or dinner

Good to know

  • Some memorial sites have their own visiting rules, timings and fees, confirmed in advance
  • Several sites require walking, some outdoors; comfortable shoes are advised
  • The programme must be timed around the opening hours of the coastal sites
  • Dietary and accessibility needs should be shared when booking

Indicative budget

Indicatively from €100 to €150 per person excluding VAT, including the historian guide and facilitation. Site entry fees, transfers from Caen or Paris and meals are priced separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is the challenge suitable for a group with little prior knowledge of the landings?

Yes. The guide gives context before each stage, and the clues are designed to be solved with the information provided on the day.

How do groups travel to Normandy?

Caen and Bayeux are reached by train from Paris in around two and a half hours. Groups are usually transferred by coach or minibus from the station.

Can the programme include a visit to the coast?

Yes. Several memorial sites are on the coast, and the route can include a viewpoint over the beaches, subject to each site's rules.
