The Verdon runs through a limestone canyon in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, with green-blue water and cliffs that change colour through the day. For a corporate group, the descent is a shared activity that does not depend on athletic ability: paddlers work as a crew, and the guide manages the pace and the sections.
Departures are organised from the river, with equipment, life jackets and a safety briefing included. The guide can choose calmer sections for participants who prefer an easy pace. Water levels vary with the season and the snowmelt, so the section is confirmed close to the date. The outing can be followed by a lunch in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie or an aperitif on the shore of the Lac de Sainte-Croix.
Objectives
- Create a shared challenge that rewards teamwork rather than strength
- Use a distinctive natural setting within reach of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille
- Pair an active morning with a long, unhurried regional lunch
- Offer a format that works for mixed fitness levels
How it works
- 1We confirm the group size, the date and the water conditions with the local operator, who sets the section on the day.
- 2Participants receive a briefing on paddling, safety and equipment, and wear a life jacket and a helmet where required.
- 3The group paddles downstream with a guide, with stops at calmer points for photographs and, where conditions allow, a short swim.
- 4Transfers return the group to the starting point, and the programme continues with a lunch or a village visit.
Good to know
- Water levels depend on the season. The section may be changed or shortened if the flow is too high or too low.
- Minimum age and swimming requirements are set by the operator. We share them before booking.
- Bring swimwear, a towel, a dry bag and sun protection. Closed shoes are recommended.
- Spring and early autumn are the most comfortable seasons. Summer is busy, so earlier departures are advised.
Indicative budget
Indicative, from around €90 per person excluding VAT for a guided descent with equipment. Transfers, lunch and private coach hire are quoted separately, depending on group size and the chosen section.
Frequently asked questions
Do participants need experience?
No previous experience is needed for the calmer sections. Paddlers are briefed before departure, and the guide adapts the route to the group on the day.
What happens if the river is too high?
The operator may shorten the section or move the activity to another day. We keep a flexible date and a land-based alternative in the programme.
Can kayaking be combined with another activity?
Yes. A morning on the river pairs well with a lunch in a hill village or a visit to the perfume town of Grasse.
