Black truffles grow in the roots of oak and other trees in well-drained limestone soils, and the Vaucluse is one of the best-known areas for the Périgord black truffle. A truffle hunt is a seasonal, tactile experience: a trained dog works through the orchard while the grower explains the tree, the soil and the way the harvest is managed.
The walk is followed by a lunch in a farm or village setting, where truffles feature in a regional menu. The grower explains how the truffle is handled and stored, and the group learns to recognise its aroma. The programme is planned around the harvest and the weather, and it is confirmed with the grower when the date is set.

- The black truffle season is winter, traditionally from late autumn to the end of winter. Harvests vary from year to year.
- The walk takes place outdoors on uneven ground. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are essential.
- Truffles are rare and their price varies with supply. Menus are prepared with the grower's stock on the day.
- A harvest cannot be guaranteed, so the programme includes a fallback, such as a winery visit or a market tour.

Will we definitely find a truffle?
No. Truffle hunting depends on the season, the soil and the dog's work on the day. We set expectations clearly, and the lunch is built to deliver the truffle experience even when the harvest is light.
Is the walk suitable for everyone?
The walk is on uneven, sometimes steep ground, so participants should be comfortable walking outdoors. Shorter routes can be arranged for those with mobility constraints.
Can we buy truffles to take home?
Some growers sell truffles directly, subject to availability and the import rules of the destination country. We confirm arrangements with the grower.
