Shore foraging and seafood cooking in Brittany
Duration
Half day, about 3 hours, around low tide
Group size
8–60 pax
Destinations
Brittany
Indicative budget
From €95 per person

Brittany's coastline has some of the largest tidal ranges in Europe, and at low tide the shore reveals a wide range of shellfish and seaweed. Under the guidance of a qualified local guide, teams learn to read the tide, identify what can be gathered and respect the rules that protect the foreshore. The catch becomes the basis of a short cooking session in which teams prepare a seafood dish together.

The guide confirms the collection rules before the session, including permitted species, sizes and quantities, which vary by area and season. The timing of the programme follows the tide, not the calendar.

Objectives

  • Discover the coastal ecosystem and the rhythm of the tide
  • Build teamwork through a shared outdoor task
  • Connect food to place through a hands-on experience
  • Finish with a shared meal prepared by the team

How it works

  1. 1Briefing on tides, safety and collection rules
  2. 2Walk on the foreshore with the guide to gather permitted species
  3. 3Cooking session with teams preparing dishes from the catch
  4. 4Shared meal and debrief on the coast

Good to know

  • Tide times and sea conditions set the timing; the programme is planned around low tide
  • Walking on rocks and sand requires water shoes and waterproof clothing
  • Collection is regulated, and the guide sets the limits on the day
  • Participants with mobility limits can take part fully in the cooking and tasting

Indicative budget

Indicatively from €85 to €115 per person excluding VAT, including the guide, equipment and cooking session. Transfers and wine are priced separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is shellfish gathering allowed for everyone?

Collection is regulated in France, with rules on permitted species, sizes and quantities that vary by area and season. The guide confirms what is allowed and applies those rules during the session.

How is the date chosen?

The programme depends on low tide, which moves by roughly an hour each day. We confirm the date and time once the tide tables are available.

Can the session accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes. Vegetarian and other requirements can be accommodated with an alternative dish, and allergies should be flagged at booking.
