Saint-Émilion is a historic wine village on the right bank of the Dordogne, with a vineyard listed by UNESCO and a reputation built on Merlot and Cabernet Franc. A blending workshop turns that heritage into an interactive activity: participants taste the individual varieties, then assemble their own blend under the guidance of the estate team.
The session begins in the vineyard or the cellar, with an explanation of the soils, the grape varieties and the choices made by the winemaker. Each participant works with small samples to find a balance, and the estate team comments on each blend. The group finishes with a seated tasting and a discussion of the differences between the wines.
Objectives
- Explain Bordeaux blends through hands-on practice
- Give participants a skill-based activity with a tangible result
- Introduce the soils and grape varieties of the right bank
- Pair a practical session with a seated tasting and a village lunch
How it works
- 1We confirm the group size, the estate, the language and the tasting schedule, and check the rules on taking bottles away.
- 2The group visits the vineyard or cellar, where the team explains the soils, the grape varieties and the estate's style.
- 3Participants taste the individual wines and build their blend with small samples and measuring tools.
- 4The estate team tastes each blend and comments on its balance, structure and finish.
- 5The group sits down to a seated tasting, followed by lunch or a transfer to the next point of the programme.
Good to know
- Estates have their own rules on bottling, shipping and labelling. We confirm these before booking.
- Vintage and harvest conditions shape the wines each year, so the blending components vary with the season.
- Participants should not drive after the tasting. We arrange transfers for the afternoon.
- Spring to autumn is the most pleasant period. Harvest time, usually in September, is busy in the vineyards.
Indicative budget
Indicative, from around €180 per person excluding VAT for a blending workshop with a guided tasting. Lunch, bottles, private transfers and private cellar access are quoted separately.
Frequently asked questions
Do participants need wine knowledge?
No. The session is designed for beginners as well as experienced tasters, and the estate team explains each step as it happens.
Can participants take a bottle home?
This depends on the estate and on the export rules for the destination country. We confirm the options before booking.
Is the workshop suitable for a formal group?
Yes. Many senior groups use it as a relaxed but structured session, with a seated tasting and a formal lunch if required.
